Zhenshan Bing at Technische Universitat Munchen and colleagues used a 3D printer to createa mouse-inspired robot with a flexible spine with eight joints controlled by servos. Most robots have rigid spines but adding articulation can make them more agile, faster and better balanced - at the cost of complexity and cost - and better suited to certain tricky tasks.
