My first original guitar piece, this ragtime-inspired work tried to answer the question: can a classical guitarist play a jazz walking bass while simultaneously playing a wild jazz-style solo over it? I thought this would be similar to the counterpoint we play in Bach, or whatever. But it ended up pretty challenging to do--my fault entirely, as the author. But the solo goes where it wants to, and I just follow. In the end, this foot-stomping, joyous excursion was great fun to play and I ended many concerts with it. I premiered it at the 2006 GFA in Columbus, GA. The score is available from Clear Note Publications here:
