This second and final movement of my solo guitar piece “One Fell Swoop,“ is a robust look at a single short tune, pulled from the guitar's unusual tuning (6=F, 4=C#). It is underlaid with complex, undulating arpeggio figures, it is played in harmonics, it is re-harmonized several times. Finally the spell is broken by a slow, solo melody line, romantic in character. This melody is slowly added to, first by a bass, then by inner voices; it speeds up little by little and eventually cascades into a wild, brilliantly explosive scale and so back to the original material. This piece, all worked out from a single earworm-worthy melodic gesture, has many unique and original textures and harmonies. This score to this work is available from Clear Note Publications here:
