The rare and mysterious Mannlicher It began life as an Austro-Hungarian made by Steyr sometime before WWI, and was originally chambered in 8x50R. Sometime between the World Wars 5,000 88/90s were sent to Belgium, shortened, given early Mosin rear sights, rechambered to 8x57mm, and modified to accept Mauser stripper clips. It isn't known exactly who did the conversions, who they were for, or exactly when they were done. The name ““ is just a guess from collectors thinking they were related to the Yugoslav conversions, but we now know they aren't. They were supposedly used by the Greeks and/or in North Africa, but an example has also been dug up in Poland.
