Amun in the Texts of Ancient Theologians and Philosophers Amun, Ammon, Amen, Ammana all these names refer to one ancient Egyptian god. Although today he is one of the most famous ancient Egyptian gods, his story, unlike that of Horus, Osiris, or Atum, is not full of exciting or action-packed myths. Amun was rather a transcendental deity, which is not surprising when we read his epithets such as, “the Invisible One” or “Hidden of Name”. Already in Greco-Roman times, philosophers were more interested in the figure of Amun than the rest of society, although Egyptian myths were extremely popular at that time. Who was Amun and how did it happen that the invisible, hidden, and unknowable god became, “King of all the Gods”, “Source of all Life”, and “Lord of the Thrones of the Two Lands“? I will answer these questions and I will present lesser-known facts about Amon in today's podcast. We will also learn more about different versions of creation myth and about the history of ancient Egypt itself as the figure of Amun-Ra is inextricably linked with the history of the land of pharaohs.
