Arnotts, Ireland’s oldest and largest department store, was targeted by looters on Thursday amid the fierce rioting that followed a stabbing attack in the city. Footage of the incident was shared on social media, with onlookers commenting in disbelief as groups of looters forced their way into the store. Arnotts and other stores had lowered their shutters early due to the increasing unrest on Dublin’s streets, but looters still managed to break in, manually forcing the shutters back up. The looting comes amid violent protests and riots in the city, as groups of people clashed with police and torched several vehicles and properties in reaction to the news that an Algerian national had reportedly stabbed five people, including three children.
