In early 2001, Yo La Tengo were requested to provide a live score for a selection of Jean Painleve's mesmerizing psychedelic undersea nature documentaries, to be played at the San Francisco Film Festival. This ultimately led to a series of approximately 12 live performances in which the band would accompany the films with their unique sonic atmosphere, aptly titled “The Sounds of the Sounds of Science.“ I've done my best to re-create this live experience by pairing the original films with studio recorded versions of Yo La Tengo's original tracks.
