A lot of Su-2 aircraft took part in the Battle of Stalingrad. After the death of the designer, in 1981, the Sukhoi Design Bureau built several wooden models of the Su-2 according to the original drawings. In 1982, one of the models was installed in Volgograd. The model of the SU-2 aircraft, which was presented to Volgograd by the Sukhoi Design Bureau team, can be seen on the territory of the memorial and architectural complex of the Battle of Stalingrad panorama museum. The second is on the territory of the design bureau. In 2010, for the 70th anniversary of the Sukhoi Design Bureau, the Volgograd model, which had already become dilapidated by that time, was replaced by an all-metal one by the efforts of the Design Bureau itself and allied enterprises. Brief information: Su-2 is a two-seat short-range bomber (another index is BB-1), serially produced since 1940. A competition for a multipurpose aircraft, which can be used both as a bomber and as an attack aircraft (the “Ivanov“ aircraft), was announced in 1936, and the Su-2 made its first flight in 1937 as ANT-51, under the Tupolev “label“. Nevertheless, the aircraft went into production under the brand name of its chief designer - Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi. A very good view from the cockpit made it possible to add one more to the list of combat “specialties“ - a spotter of fire. The car turned out to be successful and unpretentious in piloting. Produced until 1942, when all sets produced in Kharkov ended. By that time, a little less than a thousand cars had been manufactured. It was on the Su-2 that the only “female“ ram in the history of the war was carried out. Ekaterina Zelenko on September 12, 1941 shot down a Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighter with a ram, but when she tried to land her plane she was hit by another Messer.
