There is a particular procedure, common to all “long“ styles from northern China, to make the legs elastic. These basic exercises allow you to achieve fast and powerful kicks over time. Forty years ago I believed that this way of training was an elaboration of modern Wu Shu, but my friend Murru Delio's trips to India completely changed my point of view.
