The scale used to construct the exercise in this video is a simple E-Phrygian scale: 1st String: A, G, F, E (5, 3, 1, 0) 2nd String: D, C, B (3, 1, 0) 3rd String: A, G (2, 0) 4th String: F, E, D (3, 2, 0) 5th String: C, B, A (3, 2, 0) 6th String: G, F, E (3, 1, 0) Start on A of the first string (5th fret) and play 2 first notes of the scale (A, G), then return to the starting note (A). Then add 1 more note to the scale and return to the starting note the way you came (A, G, F, G, A). Then add one more note to the scale and return (A, G, F, E, F, G, A), and so on until you’ve reached the last note (low E on the 6th string). After that, start taking away notes on the return: return back not to A on the first string, but to G. Next time return to F, then to E, etc. The last notes of this exercise should be E, F, G, F, E, F, E.
