The Carneval of Acireale, the biggest, and unanimously recognized “most beautiful,“ Carneval in all of southern Italy, consists of multiple processions of enormous paiper mâché floats that poke fun at politicians, criticize social norms, and create a cheerful ambience of aesthetic surreality in the streets of the seaside Sicilian city Acireale. I chatted with a couple of the artists that made one of these miniature floats and spoke with a couple people on the procession-street selling arancini.
