Saxophone soloist Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Goff and the U.S. Army Field Band Brass Quintet perform the famous “Carnival of Venice.“ You will most definitely recognize the main melody, which has been used over and over again in different settings. The tune is actually based on an old Neapolitan folk song called “O Mamma, Mamma Cara.“ In 1829 Niccolo Paganini took this tune and created 20 variations on it, which he called Il Carnevale Di Venezia, or “The Carnival of Venice.“ Since then, the tune has been arranged for many different instruments and continues to be one of the most popular virtuosic solos of all time.
