HIYA! Here is the PV or music video for the song “MELODIES“ by Japanese visual-kei rock band “DIE IN CRIES“. The single released in 1992, but the DVD with the music video only came out in 2005, ten years after the disbandment of DIE IN CRIES. ダイ・イン・クライズ / MELODIES PV | V系 DIE IN CRIES was formed in 1991 as the solo project of KYO, the lead singer of D'ERLANGER, which was already a super successful band during the 80s. After just a few months, it became a full band, and all of its members were already in successful bands before joining DIE IN CRIES, so it was a kind of supergroup. MELODIES was their debut single, from 1992, and sold very well, peaking at number 24 on the Oricon Charts. They disbanded in 1995 after performing many sold-out concerts and releasing a packed discography. In 1991, visual-kei was already a thing and going very strong, with bands like X JAPAN, BUCK-TICK and LUNA SEA being mainstream, and others like ZI:KILL, DER ZIBET, BY-SEXUAL, COLOR, かまいたち (KAMAITACHI) and the previously-mentioned D'ERLANGER having a big influence on the scene, especially on the younger musicians, the next generation of bandmen, which would all start their own little indies bands around 1992-1994 and find mainstream succes during the mid-to-late 90s; Some of these bands from that next generation are MALICE MIZER, LAREINE, SHAZNA, La'cryma Christi, D≒SIRE, 黒夢 (Kuroyume), L'Arc~en~Ciel, BAISER, ROUAGE, Laputa, PENICILLIN, SIAM SHADE and many others. Today, the many amazing visual-kei bands which formed in the late 80s, peaked around 1990-1992, and disbanded during the mid-90s are often forgotten in the West, who mostly concentrates on these late 90s bands I just listed. Luckily, X JAPAN, LUNA SEA, and BUCK-TICK are very loved and definitely not forgotten in the West! But nonetheless, there is so many more amazing visual-kei music from 1989-1992 that doesn't get talked about enough, and this PV is a great example of it! Enough visual-kei history. I ripped the DVD, and upscaled it to 4K quality using artificial intelligence. Some manual colour and lighting correcting has also been used on it. Also, the aspect ratio of this PV is quite weird, and it was a little calculating challenge for my peanut brain to get it right without any stretching or weird cropping. The original video/PV/DVD has a TON of noise! This isn't an artistic descision, but the result of poor cameras in the very dark room where the PV was filmed. It took a lot of trial and error to remove the noise well enough but not erase any details or misenterpret noise as actual objects. I have decided not to make it 60FPS, and keep the original 30FPS.
