On Sunday June 17, 2012, SEKEM’s eurhythmy group embarked on a journey through Egypt as for the project of Eurythmy Caravan. The participants were the eurythmy students enrolled in the SEKEM eurythmy training course, the eurythmy teachers of SEKEM School as well as some trainees of the SEKEM vocational training center. The caravan reached its destination in a desert valley near Minya, a city on the Nile, 400km South of Cairo. This desert-wadi (valley) is a newly created SEKEM* farm in which medicinal herbs are grown. Through the crops, the desolate valley is transformed into a “green river“ which meanders through the dry desert landscape and instills it with new life. This is where the eurythmy caravan found its final destination. Arabic poems by Dschalal el-Din Rumi and Khalil Gibran were the core of the performance called “Eurythmy on the banks of the green river“, which united wide desert sky and dusty desert sand. Music by Erik Satie supported the magic atmosphere of the free ether
