For transverse flute, two violins, bassoon and basso continuo I. Largo (0:00) II. Presto. Fantasmi (1:59) III. Largo — Andante (2:49) IV. Presto (3:54) V. Largo. Il Sonno (5:01) VI. Allegro (6:50) Composed: before 1722 Turin source: Giordano 31 RV 104 is the original chamber version of the well-known flute concerto ‘La Notte’, published as Opus 10 no. 2 (RV 439). Both versions are scored for transverse flute. In fact, the score for RV 104 reads: ‘Flauto Tra:[versier]’ and, added later: ‘ò Violino’ (or violin). RV104a is the version for three violins permitted by the score. It seems never to have been recorded. These days, historical versions mostly use the recorder, although this is without justification in the manuscript tradition. As a composition for baroque traverso, Sardelli notes that it is a very challenging piece to play, by reason of the unwieldy tonality of G minor on that instrument. Another, less well-known ‘La Notte’ concerto exists
