When an officer deserted and sought refuge by the partisans, an agreement was made. The Decima would return the captured partisans and the partisans would hand the deserter over to the Decima. The officer was tried and sentenced to death. sgt Luciano Pieri volunteered for the firing squad. In a peculiar twist of events, the partisans requested to be also part of the firing squad.
