Facisoscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy ———— A very interesting case from my friend and fellow physical therapist, Jesse Awenus. FSHD is a slowly progressing weakening of the facial, shoulder, and upper arm muscles and onsets anytime from childhood to early adulthood. It is an autosomal dominant inherited form of muscular dystrophy. In this young lady, you can see scapular winging bilaterally along with an inability to stabilize her glenohumeral joints in weight bearing. The funny thing here is that she has NO pain at all. This type of presentation really brings into question the idea that scapular winging has a correlation with shoulder pain. Food for thought.
