On March 1, 2000, John Kroll, Joseph Healy, and Emil Sanielevici were killed. John had been repairing Ronald Taylor’s apartment door when Ronald became angry at how much time it was taking. He called the workers “dirty white trash,“ and after they had left, he grabbed his revolver, tracked them down, and shot John in the chest. Then he walked to a nearby restaurant, where he picked Joseph out at random and shot him in the back of the head. He walked to another restaurant where he shot Emil in the forehead. He also shot two other men in the head, leaving them with permanent disabilities. According to witnesses he encountered along the way, Ronald said he “was just out to get white people,“ and his gun “was for these crackers.“ Down to his last bullet, he ended up in a stand-off with the authorities, but eventually surrendered. When a policeman offered to lend Ronald something to cover his face as he was taken into custody amidst a crowd of cameras, Ronald declined and said “I’m proud of what I did.“
