StellarJAX presents BLUES BLOWOUT as part of its continuing ECLECTIC AMERICAN ROOTS Artist Showcase series of live performances at Campus JAX in Newport Beach. Rod Piazza’s boogie sound combines the styles of jump blues, West Coast blues and Chicago blues into an unforgettable performance. This accomplished blues musician’s stratospheric harmonica wailing owes a heavy debt to both Little Walter and George “Harmonica” Smith. Rod Piazza is recognized all over the world as the ambassador of the blues harp. Dennis Gruenling has been awarded the title of ‘Best Modern Blues Harmonica Player’ three years in a row by Real Blues magazine. With the Nick Moss Band featuring Dennis Gruenling, he won two Blues Music Awards for ‘Band of the Year’ and ‘Traditional Blues Album of the Year’ for Lucky Guy. India-born Aki Kumar’s harmonica playing is rooted in the classical style invented by Little Walter and others, but his blues style is eclectic. Kumar expresses his pride in his Indian heritage by creating a fusion of East and West that he calls “Bollywood Blues.” Together, these three veteran harpists bring the Blues Blowout to Campus JAX in Newport Beach.
