Accademia del Piacere, directed by the virtuoso viola da gamba player Fahmi Alqhai and accompanied by Patricia Guerrero (National Dance Prize 2021) aims in this programme to recover the instrumental practice, in this case Hispanic, and the musical reading of the 16th and 17th centuries, moving away from the superficial interpretation of fantasies, differences and glosses - already created in that period as an example of a praxis - and focusing on the pure creation and interpretation according to true historicist criteria: the true objective and aim of musicians in all periods. In this video we can listen to the Fandango de Santiago de Murcia (1673 - 1739), a Spanish guitarist and composer of the Baroque period. Although little is known about his life, it is believed that he was a disciple of Francisco Guerau, and also a musician and guitar teacher of Queen Maria Luisa of Savoy, the first wife of Philip V. Murcia was undoubtedly the most international guitarist of the Hispanic baroque period. The fandango is a popular danceable air of lively movement that gained great popularity as an exhibition dance in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In its gallant form, the genre came to have a certain projection in the European high culture tradition through the work of Luigi Boccherini, Father Antonio Soler and Domenico Scarlatti.
