Protesters congregated in The Olympic Stadium area, Oosterpark and Westerpark and then marched to Museumplein. These areas have been designated as ‘risk locations’ by police, allowing them to stop and search those entering. On December 19, a national lockdown was implemented, with all non-essential businesses ordered to close in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 and its variants. The lockdown measures were softened on January 14, with all non-essential shops and contact businesses like hairdressers being allowed to reopen again within a limited timeframe.
