Traditional Chinese (Used in Taiwan and Hong Kong) Simplified Chinese (Used in China) There are 2136 regular-use Kanji in Japan. I compare 700 Kanji with Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese and find that round 60% Kanji are same as that in Chinese. However, same Kanji is NOT always carrying same meaning. Such as, 湯 and 娘. Around 60% of of regular-use Japanese kanji are the same as Chinese and their meanings are also similar. But, it is almost impossible for Japanese and Chinese to communicate directly through writing in their own language as Japanese and Chinese are different in grammar and many words that look the same have different meaning.
