Ireland is sinking! Storm Babet causes flooding in Cork and Waterford! Hundreds of homes and businesses were severely flooded after Storm Babet dumped more than a month’s worth of rain in less than 24 hours. Storm Babet has become the second worst storm of the season and the UK Met Office said Yellow Warnings for severe weather conditions involving wind and rain will remain in place for most of the week. Local authorities say they have never seen or heard of any flooding of this magnitude before. Heavy rain and strong winds caused by Storm Babet affected the entire country. The orange warning now covers Kerry, Waterford, Wicklow and Wexford. Cork is experiencing severe flooding and several roads are closed. Southern coastal counties are also under an orange and yellow rain warning. Cork County Council advises people to take caution and stay indoors due to flooding. In a statement, the Defense Force said personnel were deployed to Midleton at the request of the local authority.
