**You can hate on the video if you want, but please remember there were 100s of people watching the waves while the lifeguards did their best to rescue 2 people. I didn’t see the person way out off the pier while taping this. As a spectator I was in NO position to rescue anyone myself nor expected to.** Huge 15-20 feet waves at the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, CA on July 24, 2009. I caught a lifeguard rescue as a swimmer was trying to come back to shore but was getting pummeled by the waves behind him. The waves reached the height of the actual pier spaying onlookers toward the end of the pier. It was some crazy stuff.
