Isabelle Aubret performing “Un Premier Amour“ (“A First Love“), the French entry at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest. France's 3rd win in 5 years may sound too much. but this entry simply deserved it hands down! Although I personally prefer the studio version, whose sparer, subtler arrangement gets more under your skin, this is still a magical, entrancing melody beautifully sung by Isabelle, who really magnetizes the camera. Six years later, in 1968, she'd return to the contest with another ESC classic, “La Source“, which came quite close to giving her a 2nd victory (in eventually ranked 3rd).
