This is a prayer song adapted from the 20th song in my book Unsung Songs [ ] Umpire My Case My Lord and my God, hear and umpire my case, The sum and substance of what they have to say, That have charged me with frailty and timidness, Over the lot you’ve suffered me in this place. I find no peace whatsoever in this day, Yet they would count as deserved my wretchedness. I am wearied and my forbearance thus tired, Their words vex me, their reproof torments my heart, The weight of my affliction bears down on me, Yet their hearts have, nevertheless, so desired, That they should not forbear to tear me apart, Where I lay in low estate beseeching thee. How have I, that has held languid hands before, And given just adjuration to others, Not then drawn from my principles and maxims, And thereupon consoled myself all the more? Bear out my geste, O Lord, before my taunters, For I fear I shall come apart at the sea
