Vic Firth Artist Yukiko Nakamura performs Lute Suite In E Minor by J.S. Bach
ABOUT THE PIECE:
The Lute Suite in E Minor is J.S. Bach’s earliest of the lute suites. Though this is still a matter of debate, it’s highly likely that it was originally composed for the Lautenwerk (lute-harpsichord), a gut-strung keyboard designed to imitate the timbre of the lute. The form of the piece is based on that of the traditional Froberger keyboard suite model: Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gigue. Bach added two additional movements to the form: a Prelude consisting of a slow section imitating a French ...overture form and a fast fugal section, and a Bourrée which is one of the most well-known movement among all his works for the lute.
