Titles read: “GOING UP!“ United States of America. Air to air shots of stratosphere aircraft, designed for action at a height of 5 miles. Several shots of two US air pilots in a pressure chamber where they are subjected to the same conditions they would find during a flight of over 20,000 feet. Doctors and observers are also present in the chamber, wearing oxygen masks, so that they can effectively test the reactions of the men. In co-ordination tests the two airmen write 'Buy War Bonds' and 'Keep 'em Flying' on a blackboard as the pressure is slowly increased. After 18,000 feet, the men have trouble writing. After 20,000, one of the men has difficulty in even picking up his piece of chalk. The men try to do a simple 'pat-a-cake' hand exercise, but can't manage it. They get the sequence wrong and slap each other's shoulders after missing their hands. One of the men stands and attempts a salute - looking decidedly ill!
