In 2020, the Menuhin Competition was getting ready to arrive in RVA. When the COVID-19 pandemic erupted around the world, organizers knew something would have to change. What happened next is the subject of @VPM ’s new production, Making Menuhin: A Documentary. Directed by Paul Roberts, the program follows the unprecedented decision to postpone the Menuhin Competition for a year, only to hold it virtually in 2021 – and how this decision and the continuing pandemic affected the participating young violinists around the world. Featuring exclusive interviews and performance footage from the four Senior prizewinners, Making Menuhin: A Documentary will be released on Facebook and YouTube on Friday Dec 3rd at 1pm EST / 6pm GMT, and aired on VPM PBS at 9pm EST. Founded by Yehudi Menuhin in 1983, the Menuhin Competition is the world’s leading international competition for young violinists. The Competition attracts hundreds of entries from countries across the globe, choosing only 44 of the world’s very best young violinists to participate. Held every two years in a different world city the Competition discovers, encourages and nurtures exceptionally talented young musicians from all corners of the world under the age of 22 years to develop into the next generation of great artists.
