After spending a day exploring with his friends Firepaw and Graypaw, Ravenpaw finds himself chasing a baby iguana straight into a murder scene. After witnessing the cruelty, Ravenpaw realizes he must leave his clan to avoid becoming the murder, Tigerstar's, next victim. He reveals what he saw to his friends and leaves to join Barley who lives on a boat that comes by yearly. But things turn for the worse when Ravenpaw is stopped in his tracks by none other than Tigerstar. Barley awaits on his boat for hours but sees no sign of Ravenpaw. Ravenpaw reappears bloodied and left for dead by Tigerstar but all hope is lost when he realizes that he's missed the boat.
