“Carol of the Bells”, a popular and beloved Ukrainian folk tune, has been immortalized as one of the most sparkling and uplifting Christmas carols, representing the spirit of brotherhood and unity worldwide. The peaceful and close existence of three families, one Polish, one Ukrainian and a Jew, who in the years before and after the war in the city of Stanislaviv lived together in a big house and shared musical evenings and merrymaking, are shattered first by the Soviet occupation and the persecution of the Polish family, then by the Nazi occupation of Ukraine and the decimation of the Jewish family By sacrificing their lives, the Ukrainian family manages to save their neighbour’s children and their own daughter.
