The executive overreach created as a result of the 1936-38 purges in turn created a precedence that allowed Stalin the tools to micro manage the Soviet Union to near collapse in 1941. In this video I specifically analyze the constitutional amendments of electoral representation and the proportionality per delegates in the Congress of Soviets and Supreme Soviet. I felt that the constitution of 1936 was a critical juncture that solidified the Soviet legislative branches role as a rubberstamp that would allow executive overreach to take hold. That in turn would have a ripple effect that would lead to appalling decisions at the battlefields in Bialystok-Minsk and Kiev, to name a few. I am sorry I have not made a video in a while. It was a combination of lack of inspiration, and the difficulty with having too many ideas. I am trying to diversify my accounts to not just include purely militaristic history, which is why I tackled this from a political perspective. The video is really trying to explain the institutional factors and critical junctures that led to such high Soviet losses in Operation Barbarossa. It is not simply the effects of Stalin’s Purge but also the causes and developments. I hope you enjoy!
