On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), decided to proclaim 03 March as #WorldWildlifeDay. This day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. It celebrates and raises awareness of the world's wild fauna and flora. We are proud to join this celebration of wildlife in the heart of Zululand, but today is marred by the fact that a number of our endangered species are in peril. The ongoing spate of mass poisoning events in KwaZulu-Natal is leaving the Vulture population in ruins, with the Lappet-faced and White-headed Vultures at risk of going locally extinct within the next year... Without Vultures, ecosystem health will be heavily compromised and the spread of disease will affect both wildlife and humans.
