Communities are assessing the damage from one of the strongest storms on record. The storm left debris across the Alaska coast, causing telecommunications outages and damage to buildings and infrastructure, including roads, docks, seawalls and runways. Fortunately, there were no reports of deaths, serious injuries or missing persons. Flooding in the Kotzebue area occurred quickly, with several coastal towns inundated by storm surge within 10 minutes. Residents of some low-lying areas sought shelter elsewhere overnight.
