Timelapse: Supermoon Rising In The Sky Near Athens The first of two supermoons in August graced the skies as it rose over Greece’s ancient Temple of Poseidon near Athens. A supermoon is broadly defined as a full Moon that is closer to the Earth than normal, just 222,159 miles (357,530km) away.
