Hello folks! Today I will show you a new restoration project. My friend asked me to restore this piece of old Cossack shashka sword. This shashka is old, with a wooden scabbard and brass fittings. It's always interesting for me! Step one, parsing the scabbard. Everything must be done carefully, so as not to break the old scabbard. After removing the old copper nails from the scabbard, I proceeded to remove the glued leather. I am removing the skin from the scabbard, I used warm water. Then, having dried the scabbard well, I primed them with carpenter's glue. I leveled the old leather that was used as a suspension, soaked it with oil. To glue the old broken scabbard and used carpentry glue and cardboard as linings. After gluing, the sheath dried for more than 30 hours. Then I processed them with a rasp and sandpaper. For pasting the scabbard, I used thin natural leather. To clean the blade, I used a rust remover, then I sanded it with sandpaper, removed only dark spots and small scratches. I leveled the shank of the checker on the anvil, it was not particularly bent. The accessories of the scabbard. I completely restored the upper glass of the scabbard, and the lower one, which was missing, was made of brass. I have processed and cleaned all the fittings. At the end, I added the effect of antiquity. I made the handle of the shashka sword from beech, the shape is classic. I also made a leather suspension for the scabbard, the same kind of old (I had a piece of old leather). As usual, the checkers test showed for you. Thanks for your attention! Sincerely, Alex.
