Burnishing pots is very labor intensive, but the results are striking, especially when finishing the surface with something called terra sigillata, a very fine slip (or liquid clay) that creates a shine on an unfired pot when buffed with a chamois (or one a couple of those light plastic bags one finds in the grocery store to fill with produce).
