- What is a PRT? Pulse Ranging Technology (PRT) is a true time-of-flight measurement technology in which short, intense bursts of emitted light are reflected from an object. Using the speed of light as a constant, the sensor calculates the duration between the time a pulse is sent and the time it is received and then determines the distance to the object. Distance sensors equipped with PRT provide reliable and extremely precise measurements with great repeat accuracy and short response times—regardless of the ambient conditions and properties of the object.
