#eastergreece #santorini In Santorini, Easter preparations start early and everyone joins in whitewashing the houses and other traditional buildings. Flowers blossom in every garden and the ladies prepare the local delicacies for Easter. Tsourekia (a type of brioche) and special Easter cookies, as well as melitinia (sweet pastries with local cheese), fill the air with mouth-watering smells. They also dye red eggs on Holy Thursday. On Friday, everybody mourns the death of Christ and there is the Epitaph procession on literally every neighborhood in Santorini. The local churches gather the pilgrims holding candles and they all march together to show their grief. In Pyrgos, the people decorate the streets with cans and lit candles for the Epitaph to pass by.
