Geoff's paternal grandparents were born in Belarus and he is thrilled at the opportunity to return to “Mother Russia“ for the first time in twelve years on a meteorite hunt with local experts. After a visit to Red Square, and the historic and recently-reopened Moscow Planetarium and its impressive space rock collection, Steve and Geoff head for the Cossack-founded town of Kasimov and the hunting grounds. Once they reach the strewnfield, the MM must contend with giant biting flies, heaps of buried trash, tank parts, and the 24-Hour Party People (AKA the Russian meteorite hunting team), while searching for an extremely rare type of iron meteorite known as an ataxite. Also: Geoff has a moment under the statue of his hero, Yuri Gagarin, and Steve stays up all night drinking vodka with the Russians in a forest.
