Earthbound is my favorite RPG of all time. By sheer chance I came into posession of a copy when I was about 9 years old and the impact the game had on me was immeasurabe. As I've grown older I've come to appreciate it even more. It's truly a work of art and everyone who loves videos games should play it. The lyrics are specifically referencing the final battle with Giygas. The first two verses are supposed to be from Ness' perspective and the final verse is from the player's perspective. As the player, you spend the whole game sort of imagining yourself as Ness, but at the very end, the game acknowledges you personally and suddenly you find yourself praying for the safety of these imaginary characters who, in reality, represent nothing more than a few lines of code and an assortment of pixels. I tried to make the last verse reflect that part of the game. Actually, I was going to make the lyrics much darker, but I decided to keep them a bit more lighthearted in the end. The battle with Giygas is the embodiment of suffering and hopelessness and I wanted to get that point across. I'm still not 100% satisfied with the lyrics and they may be subject to change in the future. There are a couple of bugs that I still need to work, but the main idea is there. I've never tried to fingerpick guitar to a metronome and it turned out to be more difficult than I was expecting, haha. I slipped up a few times, but I think it sounds pretty decent overall. I'm also still pretty bad at mixing/EQing/mastering techniques, but I feel like I'm starting to get it. Keep in mind that these covers of mine with lyrics are more like a proof of concept than they are a finished, polished product. My equipment and abilities are just not good enough for that at this point. I've got several more covers like this one planned and I'm thinking that I might go into a studio and get them professionally recorded much later this year. I'm poor though. Composed by Keiichi Suzuki with lyrics and arrangement by me LYRICS: It was a long, winding road that led us here Now in the darkness we face our worst fear So pray for us, my friends, to go home and we'll be together again Tell me how long has it been since we met? You spoke to me across a dream as I slept I knew that you would stay by my side No matter how bad it gets Try to be brave though I know you are scared Not pain nor death can break the bond that you share I'll pray for you, my friends, to go home And you'll be together again Song download:
