Ghost Blimp... Flying Dutchman... Navy airship L-8 has been called many names. There are several viable opinions as to what happened and why her crew vanished. Sadly, the one man who was in a position to know best was ignored by the mainstream media. The ZRS producer, as well as WWII airship vet Mr. Hepburn Walker, Jr., talked it over with Mr. J. Riley Hill at the 1993 Reunion of the Naval Airship Association. As you will see and hear, the Japanese did not capture the crew, they did not kill each other over a woman, nor where space aliens involved. Likewise men who trained in the rebuilt airship, as well as TV viewers enjoying the “blimp shots” during sports coverage, had no idea of her wartime experiences. Natural curiosity has made her story one of the most enduring in LTA lore, overshadowing the great achievements of WWII airships. Mr. Hill keeps the incident in proper perspective.
