After harvesting pineapple fruits, tons of pineapple leaves are usually left to rot or are burned. Instead of letting the leaves go to waste, . Taweechai Amornsakchai from Mahidol University, Thailand has studied the mechanical properties of the leaf fiber in order to make use of this agricultural waste. Then, here comes “Zuppar” a high potential fiber from pineapple leaves for plastic composite. Indeed, the stiffness and strength of the Zuppar fibers by weight can be compared to fiberglass. On top of that, . Taweechai also develops the mechanical properties of the Zuppar fiber for 3 grades: Zuppar Basic, Zuppar Plus and Zuppar SE in order to match the various usages for plastic composite. In fact, even the non-fibrous dust derived from Zuppar fiber extracting process, it can be added in the plastic composite to reduce the amount of plastic use, especially for those products that do not require strength and stiffness in their usages. So, in the end, there is no waste left to the environment. YouTube : Mahidol World Facebook : Website | Mahidol University มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล :
