Melakarta Ragas, the Parent Scales of Carnatic Music, have always held my fascination and this one in particular, even more so. With an almost surreal soundscape, this raga, albeit tricky to handle physically and mentally, is loads of fun to try and explore and since the first time I heard it played by my Guru Mandolin U Srinivasji, I was captivated.
