Strong storms swept through central Alabama, prompting several hurricane warnings and leaving a trail of damage. National Weather Service officials say they received dozens of reports of damage as the storms moved through northwest and west-central Alabama. The National Weather Service in Birmingham said a “major and extremely dangerous hurricane“ caused damage as it passed through Selma. The weather service declared a storm emergency for several counties north of the capital, Montgomery, as the same storm system moved east. “It was a large and destructive hurricane, we think, 70 or 80 miles from Selma. Structural damage, golf ball sized hail, downed trees and power lines were reported throughout the area. #tornadoinselmaalabama #tornadoinalabama #tornadoinselma #alabamatornadotoday #selmatornadotoday #alabamatornadodamage #selmatornadodamage #selmaaltornado #tornadoinalabamatoday #tornadoesof2023 #tornadowarning #tornadowarningalabama #alabamatornado2023 #usatornado2023 tornado
