After completing his “vengeance trilogy,“ director Park Chan-wook created his own take on a quirky romance with this tale of two patients in a sanitarium: Young-goon, who believes she is a cybernetic being and therefore refuses to eat, and Il-sun, a kleptomaniac who must convince her to consume food before she dies. This sequence is uncanny in its depiction of Young-goon’s hallucination of her robotic killing spree, captured in lovong slo-mo and contrasted with gentle music.
