During World War II, Nazi Germany constructed secret underground U-boat bases, also known as “pens,“ to safeguard their submarines from Allied air raids. These massive, heavily fortified structures were built along the coasts of France, Norway, and Germany, designed to be nearly impenetrable. Made from reinforced concrete, with walls up to 7 meters thick, these U-boat pens were able to withstand even the heaviest bombings. Inside, German submarines were repaired, refueled, and rearmed, allowing them to continue their deadly missions in the Atlantic, disrupting Allied supply lines and wreaking havoc on merchant ships.
