Departing Region 3738 produced an X1.9 (R3-Strong) flare that peaked at 9:26 a.m. EDT (13:26 UTC). The flare was associated with radio signatures that suggest a coronal mass ejection (CME) was likely associated with this activity, but due to its far southwestern location, an Earth-directed component is not anticipated. However, NOAA forecasters will analyze any coronagraph imagery as it becomes available. Radiation from the flare caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Atlantic Ocean: map.
