Allegro con brio (26:08) Arturo Toscanini, conductor NBC Symphony Orchestra Recorded on November 9, and 10 (Broadcast), 1951 in Carnegie Hall, New York Arturo Toscanini had already achieved one of the greatest musical careers in history by his 80th birthday, but he did not slow down. In fact, the post-war years were the busiest yet for him. The man who pioneered in radio a generation earlier was doing it again with television, his broadcasts were very popular, and his records sold briskly. It would also be the most prolific period of his recording career, and included his final Beethoven Cycle, which includes some of his best recorded performances. The present Beethoven Cycle is not a mere “re-do for hi fi“, but a revisit from great artist who still had new ideas about the music well into his eighties. Anytime Toscanini was on the podium conducting Beethoven was a major musical event. In order for our posts to remain commercial-free, we do not monetize on this channel.
