Join us as we take an early look at Port Royal, Jamaica. Port Royal is one of the important port locations you'll frequent as a citizen of the British Empire. The town located at the end of the Palisadoes, at the mouth of Kingston Harbour, in south-eastern Jamaica. Founded in 1494 by the Spanish, it was once the largest city in the Caribbean, functioning as the centre of shipping and commerce in the Caribbean Sea by the latter half of the 17th century. It was later almost completely destroyed by an earthquake on 7 June 1692. Liquefaction saw much of the town disappear into the water within mere minutes. Since this disaster, the town saw a steady decline as the population of Port Royal moved to the less precariously seated Kingston. However, Port Royal remained an important port within the West Indies, and it's history as the British “Jamaica Station“ until the 1830's. During Ahoy's period, Port Royal is a bustling port town providing every possible amenity to captains looking to trade and resupply. Not only this, but the defences provided to the town by Fort Charles (commanded by a young Horatio Nelson), maintains an imposing stronghold in the very heart of the West Indies.
